The Sky Is The Limit For Braxton Keith
There is just something about 22-year-old country singer-songwriter Braxton Keith that tells you this kid is going big places. This young artist is putting honky tonk back into country while slowly and surely making a name for himself in the Texas Country music scene. Doing so by quenching the thirst of country music fans who miss the old traditional country sound. Keith’s music is far from the typical modern day pop country we hear on the radio nowadays that’s full of electronic production; instead, it’s a whole lot more of a raw, heartfelt, old school sound filled with traditional country instrumentation and lyrics that will make the hairs on your arms stand up while you grab another beer before asking that girl to dance. Here is what I can tell you about what inspired this young gun to preserve the traditional country sound on his journey chasing the neon dream.
Born on April 13th, 1999 and originally from Midland, Texas, Braxton Keith had instruments in his hands at a young age. Keith says he didn’t get the same genes as his two younger brothers who are smart and athletic, instead God gifted him with a love for instruments and for writing music. As a kindergarten student he started by playing piano, which set a strong foundation for his knowledge of music theory. However, as a fan of Elton John – who spiked his interest for the piano – Keith took those piano lessons up until 7th grade then quit because he wanted to play Elton John instead of ensemble music. With a little brother who played guitar, Keith taught himself guitar and he hasn’t been able to put it down since. Writing music at a very young age, he was only 7-years-old when he first told his parents he wanted to get into music but was told it was too hard of an industry to get into. However, that itch for making music didn’t stop there.
Spending many years playing songs just to himself, after graduating high school Keith moved to San Angelo, Texas to attend San Angelo University where he continued writing and singing songs only behind closed doors. With undeniable talent, it wasn’t long before his roommate noticed the talent that was being kept secret as he heard it on the other side coming through the cracks of that door. His roommate – who was a cheerleader – eventually knocked on that door and told him he was pretty darn good as he asked him to come out to play for his teammates; being shy of his talent, it was something frightening for any guy his age with girls around. As he continued sharing his music around the dorm for some innocent fun, those listening sparked the idea of him recording his songs and getting out into the Texas music scene to share his talent with the world.
In May of 2019, he made his debut into the Texas country scene performing at Rockin Rodeo in Midland, Texas; since then Keith has had the honky tonk fever real bad and he hasn’t stopped chasing that feeling. While paying his dues throughout different venues and dive bars in Texas, the next step for the young artist was making a single debut. With this goal in mind he headed to Amusement Park studio in Lubbock, Texas where one of his idols, Flatland Cavalry, started their career to start his own. When it comes to his music, Keith takes inspiration from his heroes such as Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard, Brooks and Dunn, Hank Williams, Bob Wills, and George Strait, along with many others, which has impacted his love for the traditional country sound.
On May 10th, 2019 Keith made his single debut with his song “Make Up Your Mind” that racked up over fourty-thousand streams on Spotify within just the first month and quickly gained traction going into his early career. With a shiny new single that had anyone who listened once putting it on repeat, things started moving in Keith's career landing him in bigger venues and gaining him a bigger fan base. With fans wanting more of what Braxton Keith was bringing to the table, he released another single in 2019 titled “Honky Tonk Crowd” which only instituted his intentions of chasing the honky tonk sound for the honky tonk crowd.
To keep the ball rolling, it was time to give his fans a little more than just one song. On September 4th, 2020 Keith made his EP debut with his 6 song EP “Neon Dream” recorded at Off The Row studio in Nashville, Tennessee with Producer P.T. Houston. This EP was full of ballets about heartbreak and love at first sight with his usual instrumental arrangements that fans come to him for. In September 2021, Keith's career took a new and exciting turn as he signed a management partnership with the Torrez Music Group out of Nashville with artist manager and producer Alex Torrez who also represents artists such as Triston Marez, Gabe Lee, Zoe Cummins, LoneHollow Duo and Logan Samford. With the new management partnership came two new singles produced by Alex Torrez and David Dorn “A Little Bit Closer” and the power duo duet single “Settle For a Beer” with Texas country singer-songwriter Triston Marez.
From being shy of his talent kept hidden behind a closed door to 4 singles and 1 EP that’s mounted to hundreds of thousands of streams on major music platforms, so much has happened in the short 4 years of this young artist’s career. With a fan base that’s growing everyday that awaits for an album filled with more undeniably good songs that preserve the rich traditional country sound, there’s no telling where Keith's career will lead in even just a year from now. I think it’s safe to say that for Braxton Keith the sky's the limit, so find out when he’ll be playing in your area as he cuts his teeth passing through Texas’ honky tonk on his website.
